Songs
composed by Gosaiji represent a chronological unfolding of
devotees’ outer petals, before his soul exudes its effervescence
to the outer world.
Out of 54 songs so far collected we have selected twelve songs
that cover the different steps that a devotee has to ascend
before he reaches the summit.
1)
Formal and ritualistic prayer- A new aspirant prays in assembly
and mass for God’s grace. Most of the time his meditation
and loud prayer is a time bound ritual, more dependent on
his personal effort and less a cry of the soul. He tries to
tutor his mind to orient it towards God (Brahma). The first
song represents this thought :
Song - TINI BRAHMA PARAMATMA PARAMA DHAN.
(He is Brahma, all pervading, most cherished treasure)
PARABRAHME BHULO NA RE HAY AMAR MONE.
(Oh my roaming mind, do not forget that supreme)
2) Loud chanting God’s attributed name- After long years
of formal meditation and futile self effort, the devotee feels
the need for loud chanting God’s name ‘DAYAL’
(The merciful) to get rid of worldly bondage. The second song
represents this thought:
Song- “DAYAL-DAYAL-DAYAL” BOLE DAAK RE RASANA
3)
Seeking God’s grace- Repetition of God’s name
gradually removes the veil of egotism and self conceit and
thereby reveals before him the sins hidden in the core of
his heart.
Earnest prayer comes out from within to get rid of his sins
which are responsible for his stagnancy. His heart weeps for
God’s compassion. He sings with tears :
Song – “CHEYE DEKHO NATH EKBAR A ADHAMA SANTANE…”
(Oh God, Look at this soul full of vile and be compassionate)
4) Passing through a cloud of darkness- More and more the
hidden filth within him is exposed, the devotee in utter dismay
feels himself a great sinner. He thinks himself so down trodden
and the sense of guilt is so intense that he feels himself
unfit even for prayer. He surrenders himself to the will of
God. The following is not just a song but a deep cry of the
burning soul :
Song - “MOLINO PONKILO MONE KEMONE DAKIBO TOMAY….”
5)
Surrender to Guru: Finding his independent effort futile,
the devotee surrenders to Guru on the deliverer of sins and
vows to tread the path shown by him for salvation. He forsakes
his ego, pride of knowledge, self effort at the lotus feet
of his Guru and his burning soul becomes cool. He sings with
joy –
Song - “BED PURAN PODE BAHUTARO, GNYAN BOLE MONE KARO
AHONKARO……”
(Acquiring bookish knowledge by reading Veda, Puran etc; oh
my mind! You boast of knowing the supreme …..Take shelter
of Guru-the God and surrender to him if you really want to
transcend the worldly bondage.)
6)
Ecstasy of power impregnated NAAM JAPA: The devotee dances
in rapture when he gets the power impregnated MANTRA from
his Guru and says –
“The dead man in me has revived to hear the nectar like
Guru-Mantra.”
He sings with joy-
Song - “Dayamoy tabo kee modhuro naam.
Aamar naam sune pran judalo re- kee modhuro naam.”
7)
Krishna naam keertan: To him the formless, attributeless Brahma
now becomes Krishna and unfolds before him. His Aishwarya
and Madhurya swaroop. He sings with joy-
Song - “HARE MOORARE MUDHU-KAITAVARE, GOPAL, GOVINDO
GAO RE, SRI MADHU-SUDAN, YASHODA-NANDAN, GOPI
JANA BALLAV PRANARAME…..”
8)
LOVE IS GOD: When Naam brings such ecstasy, the devotee realizes
that Naam and God are the same (in Christianity “Word
is God”) further realizes that ‘God is love’
and dwells in ecstatic love that exudes spontaneously and
for no apparent reason. His exalted exuberance comes out in
the form of a song-
Song - “PREM GIRI KANDARE YOGI HOYE ROHIBO,
ANANDA NIRJHARO BARI DO HATE PAAN KORIBO…….”
(In the all pervading Love I shall dwell, (the way a Yogi
dwells in a small cave of a large mountain in union with God,
the Paramatma) and quench my thirst by drinking from the unending
cascade of joy.) |
